A Quick Linkin Park Biography

If you are following the American rock music scene then you will certainly like this quick Linkin Park biography. The group was started in 1996 in Agoura Hills, California. They shot to fame globally in 2005 when they released their debut album, “Hybrid Theory”, which was soon certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as a diamond record album.

Mike Shinoda, Rob Bourdon, and Brad Delson were the first three members of the band. The three were friends way back in high school and they got to jam together as they shared the same musical interests. Then they decided to form their own band and recruited Mark Wakefield, Joe Hahn, and David Farrell.

And similar to other bands, they also went through a series of difficulties in finding a record company to get serious with them and give them a record deal. This eventually caused some problems between the members that eventually led to Farrell and Wakefield leaving the group.

Wakefield was their vocalist then and so they needed an quick replacement for him. They found one in the person of Chester Bennington. On March 1999 Bennington became an official band member. It was also about this time that they decided to change their name from Xero to Hybrid Theory and soon to Linkin Park. If you get to read any other Linkin Park biography, you would learn that this is a tribute to Santa Monica’s Lincoln Park.

The band, after so many times that they tried and approached many record labels, they were finally noticed by Jeff Blue, who at that time was vice president of Warner Bros. Records. Their debut album, ‘Hybrid Theory’, which was released in 2000 was the result of this partnership with Blue.

The album was a sweet success for the group because it contained almost a decade of their works that were not able to get published. The album sold over 4.8 million copies. With their hit single, ‘Crawling’, the band won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. They were also nominated for two other Grammy’s, for Best Rock Album and Best New Artist. This is a rare feat for a band to achieve with just their debut album. Needless to say, the awards helped sell more albums and launched the group into the awareness of the global rock music scene. Linkin Park merch also started to appear.

The band released other commercially successful albums after that. They followed their debut album with ‘Meteora’ which was released in 2003 and which name was taken from the region of Meteora in Greece. The album sold about 3 million copies and went up various music charts in that year.

Their next album was the ‘Minutes to Midnight’ which was released on the 15th of March, 2007. It took the band fourteen months to finish it. The album has since sold over 8 million copies.

Their most recent album was the ‘A Thousand Suns’ which was released on September 2008. It was a concept album which deals more about nuclear warfare and themes of war. It mainly garnered mixed reviews from the critics.

This is without a doubt an incomplete Linkin Park biography because we can expect greater things from this one of a kind band. With their specialties ranging from rap rock, alternative rock, to hip hop and nu metal there will certainly be other fruitful endeavors the group would undertake. And for this we can expect further demands for their albums and band merch as well.
