Music industry shift towards club music?
I find quite funny actually, how for years they’ve been trying to bring back club style music(house, dance, and trance). They started by gradually bringing dancier styled synthesizers, finally they threw away hip hop rhythms and brought in 4 on the floor beat (dance synths+hip hop percussion phase was just hilarious). And finally they brought people like guetta in to the sphere of pop to where the american music scene is now today. Sure i agree its a change for the better, but why did the industry ultimately choose to?(the american people populus will eat and buy whatevers fed to them).
Also i hate how the industry refuses to put the names of any producers behind the songs apart from guetta, it really pisses me off.
Also i cant wait for the day a dance song without vocals is finally on the radio, for now the try to keep these retarded vocalists such as black eyed peas and kesha on these tracks(completely ruining them).
Pop music has always borrowed more from club music in its production, at least since the late 80′s, early 90′s. Rock flirted with it too in the production values of a lot of late 90′s music (listen to the downtempo-influenced drums and bass beats on such Mainstream artists like Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morissette). It is more and more noticeable now in the production of most of the current top-20 than it has been before, but it’s not part of any master plan like you’ve described it, it’s random evolution, as are all trends in music. Eventually people will tire of the sound; I expect a “back to simplicity” movement any day now.
To adress your other thought, having a dance oriented instrumental club song reach #1 is a longshot at best. Instrumentals have pretty much stopped making the charts (the last #1 was in 1985, and the last top-20 was in 1999). There used to be plenty of dance oriented instrumentals in the charts in the 50′s-70′s. However, all it takes is a novelty to reach #1, so it is not impossible.
