Fallen Mya
‘It’s All About Me’ is the debut track by Mýa,written by Mark Andrews and Darryl ‘Day’ Pearson for Mýa’s first self-titled album, released in 1998 on Interscope Records. A duet with fellow R&B singer Sisqo from the group Dru Hill, it was launched because the album’s lead single in February 1998 (see 1998 in music) in the United States, where it reached number six on the Billboard Sizzling one hundred and number [two] on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The one has been certified gold by the RIAA.Mya’s eponymous debut is a clean, sultry collection of well-crafted up to date urban soul that’s truly richer than the average urban record the late ’90s. Part of its success lies with the teenage Mya, who has a voice that is directly harmless and realizing, and a part of it lies with her glorious team of producers and songwriters. Govt producer A. Haqq Islam has assembled a stellar behind-the-scenes team – featuring Babyface, Diane Warren, Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott and members of Dru Hill – which has written and produced a tremendous set of songs that handle to sound common and strangely confessional. That’s as a result of many of the songs on the document are loosely about an adolescent turning into a lady, which is a subject Mya can convincingly sell. There are a number of weak moments, to be sure, but general it’s a thoroughly promising debut.
Music video
The video begins out in a movie show with simply Mýa and Sisqo watching scenes from the Good Burger movie. Mýa serenades and dances in front of Sisqo after which they later dance with fellow dancers. When the video ends, it has Mýa and Sisqo consuming dinner at a desk on stage alone with Sisqo giving Mýa a necklace. Then Mýa wakes up to see her mates surrounding her bed. It was all a dream. However the necklace Sisqo gave to her in her dream was nonetheless on her neck.
Reception
Billboard journal gave the music a constructive assessment:
Although It’s All About Me can be too repetitive and thus unnecessarily tiring at times, it does have an interesting, catchy rhythm that is hard to miss. Undoubtedly, R&B listeners will find this highly appealing. The vocals have an amazing range, in addition to a smooth, angelic tone. It’s value giving it a try.
Chart Performance
It’s All About Me debuted at number eighty-[two] on the Billboard Scorching one hundred chart and peaked at number six.It spent 3 consecutive weeks at quantity six and 20 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Scorching a hundred chart. The only became Mýa’s first consecutive top ten hit (solo) and was licensed gold by RIAA selling over 500,000 copies. It turned a prime five hit on the Sizzling R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart peaking at number [two] and Mýa’s largest success on the Scorching R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart to date.
Internationally the only was a modest success; reaching the highest twenty in New Zealand and high forty in Canada.
