Disco could be dead, nevertheless the spirit definitely isn’t. The disco era is most likely one of the most mocked when it comes to the fashions. Men wore suits with huge lapels and bell-bottom pants, while women dressed in wild outfits with bright patterns, and wore heavy makeup. Certainly today the clothes seem too much; they were outrageous to be assured, but it was a truly outrageous era, and anyone who lived it can tell you it was also an incredibly fun time.
During the late 70′s Disco fever was at its height, and people from all avenues of life dressed up in their best and headed out to spend the night boogying at clubs across the country. The dance floor wasn’t just a showcase for your Saturday Night fever inspired dance moves – it was also a spot to see and be seen, and take in the sight of people dressed in a lot of the wildest outfits ever to grace a dance floor.
Women wore short, tight dresses adorned with sequins, fringe, bright colors and patterns as well as one-piece jumpsuits that clung to curves in all the right places. Men arrived in suits in white or varying colors, shirts open to reveal gold chains and bell bottom pants. Platform shoes were all the rage, and both women and men sported them. Having interesting things come in the platform portion of the shoe was a disco favorite, most famously the trick of a live goldfish.
Disco costumes are incredibly popular to this day, as so many individuals still remember fondly the heyday of the music, dance and fashion that sent the 70′s out in unforgettable style. Disco was the antithesis of the hippie movement – all about glamour, fun and hedonism, with a certain selfish disregard for consequences. It was a brief time in history but left a mark through unmistakable musical sounds and clothing. It set the stage for the rave movement that would come later, and to this day everyone wishes they could have spent a night grooving on the dance floors of the famous disco clubs.
