The Yucatan: Your Days And Nights On An Adventure Vacation!
In our last commentary we discussed the coastal yucatan peninsula region south of Playa del Carmen and in the area of Tulum. In this piece we will center on Playa del Carmen plus the many fun things to do around this flourishing ocean-side Caribbean city. What started as a quiet and small Mayan fishing community, has rapidly turned into one of the best travel destinations in the caribbean. Back in the early 90s we visited that sleepy little village and I can say first hand it is a far cry from what it is today. Popularity brings advancement and change, however if you are looking for a great get-away and gobs of action, Playa del Carmen is the spot.
Playa del Carmen now represents a Caribbean destination that has it all. From first class shopping on the famed 5th Avenue to countless adventure parks, world class Playa del Carmen hotels and all-comprehensive resorts to dance clubs and dining alternatives to satiate even the most critical palettes. Whether by daytime or night, you will notice no shortage of activities to do in Playa del Carmen!
Playa del Carmen is so much more than just miles away from the small Tulum hotels and eco-chic cabana resorts you will definitely encounter further down the coast, but it still continues to be a beautiful, active and culturally rich spot to visit. By daytime, Playa del Carmen offers some of the best people observation that exists in Mexico, whether on the broad yucatan beaches or on the 5th Avenue walking mall you will see a diverse range of guests from all over the earth. There is so much to do and witness in this centrally placed small city, being a quick ferryboat ride to Cozumel for a great day trip for snorkeling or scuba or heading up the coastline 30 minutes to the city of cancun for even more alternatives.
Playa del Carmen by daylight means beach parties, snorkel and SCUBA tours, day trip jungle excursions, adventure theme parks, golf and great shopping. Playa del Carmen by night brings out the untamed side in nearly all who start out out beneath the luminosity of the moon. In addition to the first class eating options there are at a minimum a dozen night-clubs that cater to the late night rave and adventurous crowds. Widely known as a fun family trip option, Playa del Carmen is quickly establishing itself as a rival for Cancun with the nightlife entertainment options. A couple of places you may want to visit for the nightlife in Playa del Carmen include; CoCo Bongo for entertaining stage shows with clever music impersonators, The Blue Parrot for the fire presentations on Friday and Saturday nights, OM Playa for a cocktail in comfort and La Santanera for a hip-hop dj club.
Whether by daylight or night, with family, a twosome or single traveler, Playa del Carmen really offers something for everyone who is looking for a little or a lot of the caribbean in their holiday. It is also home for some of the best Yucatan hotels in the area. In our next piece we will endeavor inland and observe the majesty of the mayan world and culture of Merida and the adjacent areas. There is zero shortage of fun and excitement when it comes to travel on the Yucatan!
